Overflow Protection, Boost Mode, and Cancel Features
There are a few features on Hummingbird that may not be apparently obvious when first using this machine. Here is a video overview of these "hidden features":
Avoiding Press Overflow in Hummingbird
If you're just getting into using a real juice press instead of other methods, you may run into an issue where you attempt to press too much, or the recipe is too "mushy" to press correctly. This can cause the press to overflow. Don't worry! hummingbird has a press overflow detection feature which is a sensor that pauses the press if it senses an overflow event, instead of making a mess on your counter. Avoiding Press Overflow For starters, we recommend using smaller batch sizes when getting a feel for the juicer's limits. Limit the batches to 2 lbs on Hummingbird Pro, and 4 lbs on Hummingbird Pro XL. One you get comfortable on the juicer, you can increase to the max. Additionally, it's important to keep in mind that "mushy" items like pineapple and citrus need more room to expand for juice extraction than for fibrous items like root vegetables or greens. So, if your recipe includes much of the "mushy" items, we recommend a smaller batch size. We have an in-depth article about this on our blog.

Goodnature Hummingbird - Prevent Breaking Press Bags (with video)
How to Prevent Fresh Filter Bags from Tearing in Your Goodnature Hummingbird FreshFilter bags are single-use, so an occasional tear is nothing to worry about — just pull the bag out, discard it, and move on. But if your bags are tearing frequently, there's almost always one culprit: the front press rack is installed backwards. Here's why that happens, and how to fix it. Why Backwards Racks Tear Bags When the press is assembled correctly, the bottom rack and front rack fit together like Legos, leaving no gaps. Small interconnects at the bottom of each rack seat into one another and form a tight seal. If the front rack is installed backwards, those interconnects can't engage, leaving a small gap where the two racks meet. That gap might not look like much, but under the full force of the press, too much pressure builds up where the gaps are, and this can cause the bag to tear. How to Assemble the Press Correctly Place the bottom rack inside the press. Insert the front rack, checking the pin orientation. The front rack has small pins that are designed to grab the bag after you fold the top flaps over. Make sure these pins are pointing outward — if they are, the rack is facing the right way. Push the front rack fully down. The interlocks on the two racks should be firmly seated in each other. If you can see a gap where the racks meet, the front rack either isn't pushed down all the way or is installed backwards. Insert the platen. Load the bag. Push the filter bag in, fold the flaps over the top, place it in the press, and you're ready to juice. Still Having Trouble? This fix solves tearing issues about 99% of the time. Goodnature Hummingbird - How to Lubricate the Press Rod
How to Lubricate the Press Rod on Your Goodnature Hummingbird If you're hearing unusual noises while your Hummingbird is pressing (sometimes a bang or knocking sound), it's often caused by friction where the press rod meets the seal. The rod can catch slightly as it moves, and the fix is simple: a little oil. What to Use We recommend a food grade lubricant. Our preferred product is Super Lube H3 lightweight oil, a food grade oil used in food manufacturing facilities. In a pinch, olive oil also works. Just note that olive oil can build up residue over time, so food grade lubricant is the better long-term choice. Step-by-Step Instructions Turn on your machine. Remove the moving platen, then lower the grinder. Run the press cycle, and wait for the press rod to fully extend. Tip: you can speed this up with boost mode — hold the Press button to activate it. Lift the hopper once the rod is fully extended. This stops the press rod from moving — it's a built-in safety feature. Apply the lubricant. Put a small amount of food grade grease (or olive oil) on a towel and rub it around the press rod. You don't need much, just enough to eliminate the friction. Close the hopper and press Stop to retract the press rod. That's it! You're ready for your next juice batch. Need a Hand?
